Kylian Mbappe's goals have powered Paris Saint-Germain to the brink of a Ligue 1 title defence in 2022/23 with the Frenchman set to land another Golden Boot title.

However, despite his ever-expanding importance to PSG, rumours of a potential exit are never far away, with long-term admirers Real Madrid keeping a close eye on his situation in Paris.

Mbappe's decision to reject a switch from Paris to Madrid in the summer of 2022 caused shockwaves in the Spanish capital as he eventually opted to sign a contract extension at the Parc des Princes.

Despite PSG's commitment to the Les Bleus captain, his future remains unresolved, with fresh reports claiming he will not extend his deal in Paris, with an exit on the horizon for the 24-year-old.

When does Mbappe's PSG contract end?

The small print of Mbappe's contract has emerged as a key factor in a possible exit package with a deadline apparently in place to extend his bond until 2025.

The initial agreement stipulated a two-year contract, up until July 2024, with reports from Spanish outlet Marca claiming he needs to exercise an option before July 31, 2023 in order to extend the contract to 2025.

The clock is ticking on Mbappe's next move, with French outlet L'Equipe reporting his mind is made up on activating the clause, putting pressure on PSG regarding a potential transfer.

Mbappe transfer fee

If Mbappe makes a firm call on not extending until 2025, PSG are faced with two choices this summer.

They can transfer their star man to another club, while his current market remains at around £155m/$195m, or they can hold him to the terms of his contract, and potentially watch him leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2024.

Based on 2022, Real Madrid would appear to be the only side open to making a firm bid for Mbappe. But the Spanish giants could also be prepared to wait until Mbappe is free of his contract, if they deem that PSG's demands are out of reach.

If Mbappe's deal with PSG is not extended to 2025, he would be open to negotiate a free transfer to a non-French club beginning in January 2024, with a view to moving at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.
