On the eve of Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, it has been revealed that Boston Celtics guard Malcolm Brogdon has been dealing with an ongoing injury throughout the series.
Brogdon is reportedly playing through a "partial tear in the tendon coming out of his right elbow," according to a report from The Athletic.
With the Celtics on the brink of elimination and one of their key contributors struggling with injury, The Sporting News has you covered with the latest updates on his injury.
Malcolm Brogdon injury update
According to a report from The Athletic's Jared Weiss, Brogdon suffered the injury in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Miami Heat.
Brogdon had reportedly been struggling with "golfer's elbow soreness" in their Celtics' second-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers, however, he "exacerbated the injury by tearing the tendon" as he boxed out Heat forward Kevin Love in Game 1.
The 30-year-old was listed as 'probable' on the injury report ahead of Game 2, before being cleared to play.
After playing 37 minutes in Game 1 and shooting 2-of-4 from the 3-point line, Brogdon has averaged just 20.3 minutes across the next three games, struggling with his shooting, going 1-of-10 from deep through Games 2 to 4.
After being named Sixth Man of the Year with averages of 14.9 points on 44.4 percent from the 3-point line, he hasn't been able to replicate that production in the Eastern Conference Finals, putting up just 8.5 points on 21.4 percent from deep.
Will Brogdon be available for Game 5?
Brogdon has not been listed on the injury report for Game 5 and is expected to continue playing through the injury.
As reported by Weiss, he is "expected to evaluate whether he will need surgery after the season.
